Future of SMHS workforce looking bright with new nursing and midwifery graduates
Meet our new Fiona Stanley and Fremantle Hospital nursing and midwifery graduates. Bottom from left: nursing and midwifery graduates at Peel Health Campus and Rockingham General Hospital
Across all our hospital sites, you will see plenty of fresh faces as our nursing and midwifery graduates start in various roles within South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS).
We’re thrilled to welcome 183 graduates as they kickstart their clinical careers as registered or enrolled nurses, midwives and mental health nurses.
Fiona Stanley Hospital will see 93 graduates start, while Fremantle welcomes 39 and Cockburn Health has eight coming on board. Slightly further south, Rockingham General Hospital has a total of 29 nursing graduates and Peel Health Campus will see 14 graduates starting this month.
SMHS Area Director of Nursing and Midwifery, Peta Fisher, said the latest graduate intake is one of the health service’s largest to date.
“It’s fantastic to see all these nursing and midwifery graduates choose our health service as their preferred employer,” Peta said.
“The program we offer at SMHS provides an encouraging and supportive environment for graduates with a range of rewarding and challenging nursing and midwifery roles on offer across our hospital sites.
“We continue to focus on developing an inclusive and innovative workplace to help graduates kickstart their careers.
“Our growing workforce relies on the vital role of graduates – the enthusiasm, energy and passion they bring with them is a benefit not only to our patients but also to the existing clinical teams.”
We wish all our new graduates the best as they put their training into practice and further develop their skills to provide high levels of care to our patients.
Recruitment for the next intake of nursing graduates commences this month with the groups expected to start at various SMHS sites in August.
